About the Author
Born several years after his father, Lt. Dale D. Eddy, sustained injuries in Vietnam, web designer Scott Eddy created this digital memorial as a tribute to the incredible courage of the U.S. Marines who braved the firefight that day. Our mission with My Yankee Papa is to look past the iconic frame of Larry Burrows’ photograph and deeply examine the harrowing moments before and after that camera lifted off from the LZ. Above all, this site is a testament of lifelong gratitude to the extraordinary Marines of YP-3, YP-13, and the rescue crews who fought through an intense gun battle to protect and save a fallen brother. Through hours of family interviews and collected materials, this project exists to celebrate and honor those brave individuals and their ultimate sacrifice and heroism. It is our deepest hope that My Yankee Papa preserves their legacy, and we invite you to return as we continue to uncover and share their stories.
